Nora Òkka is an Athens-based architect and visual artist. She is inspired by and comes from a long line of architects. Through this intergenerational influence she creates spaces and installations through which architectural and curatorial frameworks are reinterpreted.
Her interdisciplinary academic and creative research into the ancient practices and the contemporary legacies of spoliation, has resolved into a series of architectural projects and artworks that demonstrate and examine the concept of spolia as a micrographic constitution of the memory of architecture.
Her architectural practice builds upon this guiding principle and centres on the value of reuse and the consciously repurposing of the existing building materials. This integrated design and construction process results in a unique architectural identity for each project ensuring architectural provenance.
Having thoroughly explored spolia, Nora Òkka has been developing an online spolia platform aiming to make visible the traces of hidden networks of the past into the present. Within this context, this web mapping will provide a common ground for the entire practice of spoliation promoting localized reuse of building materials open and accessible to all.
Licensed as an architect in Greece, she holds Masters degrees in Architectural Engineering, National Technical University of Athens (2006), Digital Arts and Cinema, Athens School of Fine Arts (2009), Scenography, Institute of Design and Technology, Zurich University of Fine Arts (2012) and a PhD in Architectural Curating: Institute for Theatre, Film and Media Studies, Vienna University (2017). Her post-doc research at the School of Historical Studies in the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton examines the manifestation of the practice of spoliation on the city of Venice.
Her solo exhibitions of the Little Metropolis Spolia Project include "Spolia 44" at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Berlin, Germany (2026), "22 + 1 Transcripts" at the Silversmithing Museum, Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation in Ioannina, Greece (2025-2026), "Crossroads of Faith" at the Patmos Trust, Greece (2024), "33 Transcripts" at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens, Greece (2019), "22 Transcripts" at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, United States (2018-2019), "11 Transcripts" at the General State Archives, Ioannina, Greece (2017), "11 Transcripts" at the Patmos Trust in Patmos, Greece (2017), "99 Transcripts" at the Athens Conservatoire, Greece (2015-2016).
